Workshop: Understanding privileges and living solidarity

What is it about?

In this workshop we will look at the process of “allyship”, where people recognize, reflect on and use their advantageous position – be it in society or in the workplace – to actively and consciously support underrepresented or disadvantaged groups. During the workshop, we will discuss the importance of allyship in creating an inclusive, supportive work environment and explore the different forms of privilege and power relations in everyday life and corporate contexts. Through interactive discussions and practical exercises, we will work out how we can recognize our own privileges, question our prejudices and actively contribute to creating equal opportunities and inclusion.

You can expect insights into the following topics:

  • Different types of capital (financial, social, cultural, etc.) and the associated privileges
  • Stereotypes, why our brains sometimes need to use them, how they work, and why they can be problematic
  • Microaggressions – neurological knowledge, fear learning and why “small” problems are very big for disadvantaged groups
  • Inclusive language – why do we need it? Psychological knowledge about how language shapes our thinking and perception of the world
  • Intersectionality – what does it mean? Balancing act between small steps and big goals on diversity, inclusion and equality
